Worst café in Melbourne

Bloody hell; the next Weblogger Meetup is at the Sahara Cafe, for the third time in the past four months. Each of those months, it was the only place in the CBD in the voting options; the others were places in Brunswick and Prahran, and even a network-gaming centre somewhere in Lilydale or wherever; but none of the other Melbourne venues (Lounge Downstairs, Cookie, Troika) got a look in. (Last month, people voted for the Comfortable Chair in Brunswick; only two people turned up to that one.) Are the Sahara proprietors paying meetup.com for exclusive listings or something?

Whats wrong with Sahara? Apart from it being rather small, I guess. I can see why people would avoid Lounge downstairs (do they mean the restaurant?) - thats an effing expensive eatery, most people couldnt afford to drop in somewhere like that.

Maybe you're allowed to add other cafes to the list? Im sure I saw something like that once, but I could be going mad.

The proprietor is a psycho who bans people willy-nilly, perhaps?

Are we talking about the same Lounge Downstairs? I had some herb bread or similar there not long ago, and it cost something like $2.50, which is cheap by swanky café standards.

Plus, they have both chai tea and Hoegaarden, should you desire either.

You can add other venues to the list -- as long as you shell out for a Meetup Plus!™ membership prior to doing so. Otherwise you're stuck with the Sahara, some place in Prahran or Fitzroy which is too inconvenient for most people, and the aforementioned deathmatch centre in the outer 'burbs.

You could always suggest it. Or set up your own alternative blogmeet.

(I'm not going to organise one; I've got enough cat-herding to do with Poplounge.)
