It was a good Fanclub last night. I did an early DJ set, going for an hour and a half or so, then justlikehoney and chilledmilk did an entertaining set (ostensibly "surf-rock horrorpunk"; think lo-fi laptop electropop with 12-bar-blues progressions and stream-of-consciousness lyrics about necrophilia and teen crushes and stuff), along with some Talkshow Boy songs. Then The Rumours played and were really good; jangly indie-pop played very tightly. Then, an hour or two after the bands finished, everybody else showed up (apparently there was some sort of CD launch or something that they were all at).

What I played in my DJ set:

  • Damon Albarn - Closet Romantic (starting off in a chilled-out loungey sort of vein)
  • The Random Numbers - Mornington Crescent
  • Harvey Williams - Introducing...
  • Christian Bruhn - Ford Capri II (off the Popshopping compilation)
  • Stereolab - People Do It All The Time
  • Minimum Chips - Interesting
  • Ninetynine - Highway Delights
  • Le Tigre - Much Finer
  • All-Girl Summer Fun Band - Dear Mr. & Mrs. Troublemaker (getting into the girly power-pop now)
  • Bidston Moss - Death To The MF
  • The Lollies - Imaginary Boyfriend
  • Lush - 500 (Shake Baby Shake)
  • BAM BAM - The Knocker
  • The Pixies - Debaser
  • The Field Mice - September's Not So Far Away (and so begins the UK indie phase of this set)
  • Spearmint - It Won't Be Long Now
  • The Bodines - Heard It All
  • Blueboy - Boys Don't Matter
  • The Radio Dept. - Where Damage Isn't Already Done
  • Another Sunny Day - Anorak City
  • Ash Wednesday - Love By Numbers (going electro-pop now...)
  • The Aluminum Group - Love Action (I Believe In Love) (Human League cover)
  • Bis - Love Will Tear Us Apart
  • Pulp - Death Goes To The Disco
  • Broadcast - Come On Let's Go
  • Eggstone - Thema #2
  • Belle & Sebastian - The Boy With The Arab Strap
  • The Liberty Ship - Sweet and Tender Hooligan (Smiths cover)
  • Moz - The First of the Gang to Die
  • Clag - Security Man
  • Architecture In Helsinki - Scissors Paper Rock
