  • I recently heard that Melbourne band BAM BAM recently got a record deal with the label run by the guy who ran Timberyard Records, and are putting out an EP in January, with an album to follow.
  • Ninetynine have the support slot for the Le Tigre gigs in Melbourne and Sydney around the end of the month. That sounds like a good choice to me.
  • when Disco Zombies (the disco-punk track I worked on with andrewyayus & co.) finally comes out, it'll probably come with a Talkshow Boy remix.

Speaking of Australian music, I'm going to have to get copies of the new Minimum Chips and Architecture In Helsinki releases. I wonder if Rough Trade would have them on import.

if you'd like me to buy anything and post it to you I'm happy to do so, actually, I should get you to send me a couple of things from england in return. if you find a copy of the placebo 20 years single with I do as the b-site, buy! and also if you find I AM X - Kiss & Swallow - I have to wait until late feb for it to arrive via *cough* sanity.com.au *cough*

(and I totally hadn't thought of asking for you to look for anything before I started writing this comment)

Hmmm; that could possibly be arranged.

Australian CDs I'm interested in are Minimum Chips' Sound Asleep (mainly this one, in fact), Architecture In Helsinki's Keepsake, and/or any recent releases from The Rumours or The Tranquilizers (which, if they're recent, should be in PolyEster Records, on the left as you walk in).

polyester isn't terribly far from my place, I'll try to go there on the weekend for you. (there's an EXCELLENT gelati place which has opened up the road, so it's a good excuse to go there) I'll email you about my success or failure. let me know if you can find the things I've asked for :)

I would have thought that AIH or MC would have made a far better support for Le Tigre. Or Bracode or even Bitchcraft perhaps. Ninetynine would make a perfect support for The Shins (who I think are touring there soon).

Not sure about that.

AIH are, IMHO, a bit too twee, sugary and (faux-)innocent for Le Tigre; more to the point, their sound doesn't pack much punch. Minimum Chips are also a bit too mellow. Ninetynine, however, with their tight Casio and vibraphone riffs, would be ideal.

As for Ninetynine supporting The Shins, there'd be a mismatch in the other way, with The Shins being a bit too laconic after Ninetynine, and being possibly perceived as an anticlimax.
