A good slice of the Central Line was shut down this morning, which made getting to work somewhat fraught. One thing I discovered is that if there's one thing that's hotter and less comfortable than a deep-level Tube line, it's the lower deck of a Routemaster bus.
Apparently the cause for the shutdown was the usual signal failure. Why is it that the London Underground cannot run a service without signals failing? Could it be that the companies which maintain the tracks maximise their profits if they let the system run down to failure, rather than keeping it running smoothly?
I didn't realise you had found employment, acb - you mentioned _not_ having employment, but never having rectified that situ...what you up too? and here I was thinking that you were either making a mint off your once a month dj slot, or were some insanely rich heir....

I wasn't quite that well off; in fact, I ended up borrowing money from relatives (which I've since paid off). I got a job in January, after some five months of London unemployment (not having any generic office/service-industry experience meant that it was either specialised IT work or standing on Oxford St. holding one of the GOLF SALE signs for £5/hour; thankfully, I managed to find some Python web programming work).
